What is HomeTown Mobile Deposit?
HomeTown Mobile Deposit (“Mobile Deposit” or “HMD”) is a service available to HomeTown Bank and NewRiver Bank customers with our Android or iPhone mobile banking apps. HMD enables you to deposit checks directly into your account(s) by taking a picture of a check using your smartphone.
Mobile Deposit is a convenient way to deposit funds with HomeTown Bank. However, HMD may not be the fastest way to access funds from your deposit. If you need quicker access to your funds, you may want to visit one of our office locations during business hours.
What are the benefits of using Mobile Deposit?
The number one benefit is convenience. Mobile Deposit allows you to deposit a check (s) 24 hours/day, 7 days a week, from anywhere.
What mobile devices are supported?
HMD is currently available for the Android and iPhone.
Who is eligible for HomeTown Mobile Deposit?
HomeTown Bank customers who are enrolled in mobile banking, maintain an eligible personal checking or savings account, have downloaded the Android or iPhone mobile banking apps and have accepted HomeTown Bank’s Mobile Deposit Agreement are eligible. Enrollment is not guaranteed as some restrictions may apply.
How much does it cost to use Mobile Deposit?
Currently, there is no charge for Mobile Deposit. We may assess fees or charges in the future, and you will receive notice of such fees or charges, as required by law.
Are there limits for deposits made through Mobile Deposit?
Mobile Deposit limits are:
- $1,500 per day and $5,000 per month
- 5 checks per day and 10 per month
- $3,000 per day and $10,000 per month
- 5 checks per day and 20 per month
When will I see the deposit into my account and when will my funds be available?
If you submit a deposit to us on a business day we are open before 7:00 pm, the deposit will be processed that business day. Deposits made after 7:00 pm will be processed the next business day. Every day is a business day except for Saturdays, Sundays and federal holidays.
Funds deposited using Mobile Deposit will generally be available within 2 business days from the day of deposit. However, availability of funds deposited may be delayed for a longer period under certain circumstances. As noted above, if you need quicker access to your funds, you may want to visit one of our office locations during business hours.
Deposits are subject to verification and will not be available for immediate withdrawal. Deposits made using HMD are not subject to funds availability requirements of Regulation CC.
Should I endorse my check and do I need a deposit slip?
Yes, endorse the back of the check by writing “For Deposit Only, HomeTown Bank” and sign your name as written on the front of the check. There is no need for a deposit slip.
How will I know when my deposit is complete?
You will receive a confirmation message immediately on your phone when a deposit has been successfully transmitted. You will also receive a confirmation email when the deposit was approved for processing.
Why did I receive an email stating that my deposit was rejected?
It is possible that a deposit may be rejected due the image of the check being blurry or the information entered does not match the information on the check. In these cases, the deposit cannot be processed and will be rejected. If you receive an email like this, please contact any of our office locations.
What should I do with the check after it has been deposited into my account?
When you receive the email confirming your deposit has been approved, we suggest that you write on the front of the check: “Mobile deposit on DATE”. Securely store the paper check until you view the deposit on your Online Banking account transaction history or on your statement. After 15 days you will need to destroy the check by properly shredding the item.
What happens to the check image?
An image of the check goes to the bank, and we begin the process of collecting the funds from the check writer.
What if I accidentally deposit the same check twice?
A check can only be accepted for deposit one time. Mobile Deposit has a duplicate detection tool that will alert you if you attempt to deposit an item twice. To help avoid any confusion, write Mobile Deposit on DATE on the front of the check after you submit it for deposit. If you are concerned about a deposit you have submitted, please call any of our HomeTown or NewRiver Bank offices.
Which accounts can I use to make deposits?
Consumers can deposit checks into their HomeTown Bank or NewRiver checking or savings accounts that have been enrolled in HMD. Businesses can deposit checks into their HomeTown Bank or NewRiver business checking account.
